Barrington Youth Baseball and Softball

Mustangs Tryouts took place on October 1st & 2nd.  All teams will be finalized in by mid-October.

Mustangs was created in 2009 to bridge the gap between House play and Full Time travel. The program is for players u9 through u12. 

Team(s) will begin practice in February or March, and then weekly throughout the house season. These Mustang players will also play in the House Division with their other classmates. The Mustang players will have a weekly practice, many with a professional training component. This weekly practice will be on a day in which the house league does not have any games scheduled. The Mustangs plan to participate in a Memorial Day Weekend tournament. After the holiday tournament, the Mustangs will continue their weekly practices and once the house playoffs are complete, the Mustangs will play a 3 to 5 week tournament schedule. The Mustangs will also have an opportunity to schedule mid week games against other travel teams in between tournaments. A Mustang player will be participating in a schedule of an estimated 40 games between their house and travel teams combined. These players will need to commit to an aggressive schedule from March through the end of July. These teams are managed by parent volunteers.

This program includes some professional instruction and a high level of competition for those players qualified and interested, while still providing the opportunity to play with and against all classmates.

Players will be asked to register for the tryouts in advance of the sessions. That registration will open later this month.

Barrington Travel tryouts for full time Baseball and Softball teams took place on July 6th and 13th. 

BYB&S offers travel opportunities for baseball and softball players. Baseball full time travel is available for players u9 through u14. Softball full time travel is available for u12 and u14 players. Barrington Travel is only for residents of CUSD 220.

All players will be notified of their status whether they make a team or not. All 2012 Barrington Travel Rosters will be finalized in July with invited players receiving directions in July for how to secure your roster spot by registering for the 2012 experience. Those directions will arrive along with the initial invitation. A deadline will be provided for when invited families must complete the registration process. Those who miss the deadline will be removed from the roster so please pay close attention to the directions for accepting a roster spot when it arrives.

Team budgets vary based on the age group.  Most teams have a budget from $1,100 to $1,400.  Teams that make an out of state trip require an additional expense (Cooperstown, Omaha, etc).

Barrington Youth Baseball & Softball has been serving our community for more than 60 years. Over time the program has grown with over 100 teams participating each year. While BYB&S continues to adapt to the changing needs of our participants the program remains focused on its original objective:

Full Time Travel Baseball

Barrington Travel Baseball is an age based program for players 9 through 14 (3rd - 8th grades). Tryouts are held in the summer - see the Barrington Travel page on the website for more details.

Advanced training is provided by experienced coaches and professional trainers. BYB&S Travel is a developmental program for Barrington High School. BHS players and coaches have helped shape the program and contribute to a portion of the instructional component.

Professional instructors from other communities are hired as independent evaluators to ensure a fair tryout process. BYB&S is an open program and all CUSD players are eligible to tryout - these teams are not recruited/closed teams. Players practice 1-2 times per week during the off season (December - March), and play 3-5 games per week with a practice during the regular season (April - July).

Depending on the age group, teams can play between 40 to 75 games. Each Barrington travel team competes in a regional league and plays a regular season schedule building towards a playoff and League Championship. Travel Teams also compete in a number of in season area tournaments.

Full Time Travel Softball

Barrington Travel Softball is an age based program for players 11 through 14 (5th - 8th grades). Instructors from other communities are hired as independent evaluators to ensure a fair tryout process.

BYB&S Travel is a developmental league for Barrington High School. BHS players and coaches have helped shape the program and contribute to a portion of the instructional component.

BYB&S is an open program and all CUSD players are eligible to tryout - these teams are not recruited/closed teams. Our goal is to continue the development of all qualified players through extensive training with experienced coaches and outside resources. Travel teams work with the high school program and provide the most up to date training programs around. Players practice 1-2 times per week during the off season (January - March), and play 3-5 games per week with a practice during the regular season (April - July). Depending on the age group, teams can play between 40 to 55 games.

All Stars

NEW - the current All Star system is for players in each House division. Each division has a different experience but most include teams formed by house managers that participate in a year end All Star game. Consult with your House division commissioner for more details.

Players born in 1997 and later are eligible for the u14 teams. Softball players born in 1999 and later are eligible for u12 teams.

For travel baseball -

u14 - 8th grade

Travel Baseball - an April 30th cutoff is used. For example, any 4th grader (in 4th grade on April 1 2012) who would turn 11 after April 30th would be eligible for the 10 year old team.
